The vines of Madison Ridge are grown in Riverina, an appellation located in New South Wales near the border with Victoria. Hot, dry summers provide a long ripening period for grapes. The soils here are dominated by clay and alluvial soils left by the rivers that created the plain – these Shiraz vines are planted in heavy clay loam layered of a gray heavy clay. Vines are approximately 17-years-old, flourishing in the cooling clay soils. Vintage 2017 was a breeze in Australia with no major weather events to report. Picking started on a typical timeline with both quality and quantity reflecting the vintage.
